Boarding School For Troubled Boys

Parents who have decided that their troubled teen boys need long-term professional help generally turn to therapeutic boarding school programs. These schools are designed to house and educate troubled teens and provide them with academic, social and therapeutic support. Many parents figure that this kind of residential therapy program is the answer to their son's problems, but they may not be sure about what to look for in a therapeutic boarding school for troubled boys. After all, this is a confusing, frustrating and scary time, where parents aren't sure where to turn or who to contact. The good news is that therapeutic boarding schools are specially designed to help troubled teen boys with a range of issues and provide the therapeutic, academic and social healing they so desperately need. Conditions like ADD/ADHD, oppositional defiance disorder, bipolar, substance abuse, anxiety, depression, abuse trauma and more are just some of the issues that teen boys might struggle with. When they are experiencing failure in a traditional environment, they can turn it around and thrive at a therapeutic boarding school. When it's time for parents to search for a quality therapeutic boarding school, here are three things to look for: 1. State Regulations on Teen Help Facilities Not all therapeutic boarding schools are alike, and different states have a range of laws and regulations that monitor the teen help industry. While some states have strict laws and high standards, other states are more lax, and allow schools to meet less than ideal requirements. To ensure the best operating standards, parents should look at state regulations to narrow down the options for a therapeutic boarding school. 2. Staff and Faculty Background The training, licensing and qualifications of the staff and faculty are a top priority in finding a good therapeutic boarding school. Besides checking for licensed professional therapists, parents should check out all the other staff members as well, that include nurses, social workers, counselors and even house parents. Experience and education is an important part of the professional makeup of the people who run each therapeutic boarding school. . 3. Referrals and Testimonials Good therapeutic boarding schools will have a successful track record and should have plenty of testimonials from past students and parents. Parents who are investigating boarding schools should be able to access a number of referrals and recommendations as to the success of the school's program. Schools that have some longevity to them also prove that they have been able to stay successful and stay compliant with state and local laws. Troubled youth often need professional help for a range of issues, far more than what loving parents can do for them. With a focus on academic, therapeutic and social achievements, therapeutic boarding schools are often the last, but best, hope for troubled teen boys.
