Schools for Anxiety

schools for anxiety utah Anxiety can take a toll on any one of us without discriminating. Whether there is a family history of anxiety or seeing your teen experiencing it is your first encounter with this sometimes debilitating mental health concern, there’s always help to be found. Teens who struggle with anxiety may find it difficult to concentrate on schoolwork, have issues with their friendships and relationships, and may find that they soon spiral with depression taking over. For a parent, it can feel overwhelming to watch your teen struggle. You may feel helpless as your teen struggles with anxiety, worry, and potentially panic attacks. Is there anything that you can do to help your teen at home? When is the right time to seek out professional help? Teen Anxiety Key Points to Remember As you and your teen begin to navigate anxiety and the path to getting the proper treatment for it, there are some things that you can keep in mind. Anxiety is the fear or concern that something terrible will happen or that you will be unable to cope or handle a situation.
  •       Many teens will struggle with anxiety at some point.
  •       Adolescence can be challenging. Anxiety can be a natural response to some of these challenges.
  •       Anxiety can be expressed in a few ways. Your teen may cry, react with anger, or begin to withdraw without other apparent reason.
Teens who react with a range of emotions can be seen as overreacting, aggressive, or dismissed as typical teenage angst. How Can You Help Your Teen At Home? The importance of good communication with your teen cannot be overstated. If you can’t communicate well together, it will be more of a challenge to find a way forward. How do you establish good communication with your teen?
  •       Spend quality time together, talking about anything they may have on their minds.
  •       Speak to him about anxiety, how he’s feeling, and share more about how anxiety has impacted you.
  •       Create a warm and nurturing environment in which your teen feels completely comfortable opening up when they are struggling.
  •       Get your teen help through therapy. Whether individual, group or family therapy, there are many benefits to be had.
  •       Have other family members take part in the activities that you and your anxious teen are enjoying. This can help create that warm environment your teen needs to feel safe and heard.
Feeling anxious doesn’t feel great. There’s no doubt about that. But anxiety in a teen is not always bad. Anxiety and taking the time to evaluate a situation can help to keep a teen safe and make poor decisions. That said, when anxiety escalates to where it is taking a toll on your teen’s ability to cope, go to school, and lead an everyday life, it is time to get him help. Professional Help For Teens With Anxiety It might be time to seek out professional help for your teen’s anxiety if he appears to be struggling beyond the customarily expected anxiety teens often work with.
  •       He may constantly feel on edge
  •       He may be withdrawing from family and friends
  •       His schoolwork may be suffering
  •       He may have meltdowns when faced with things that trigger his anxiety
There are several options for getting professional help, starting with your teen’s school counselor. The school counselor may be able to recommend an adjusted plan to help your teen catch up with his schoolwork. The counselor may also have access to resources to help your teen with anxiety. Getting your teen seen by a therapist or psychiatrist with experience in adolescent mental wellness can also be helpful.  If you have explored all avenues, you may feel completely helpless and unsure how to try next to help your teen. A therapeutic boarding school that offers a focus on mental wellness could just be the best option for your struggling teen. In these structured and nurturing environments, teens can connect with others who face similar struggles. They can also disconnect from the environment that may have been responsible for triggering their anxiety and panic attacks. Your teen will receive a mental wellness plan that addresses each of the issues he struggles with. A tailored program can help your teen to navigate his anxiety, work through the triggers, and find his way back to what his routine and stability look like. No parent likes the idea of their teen living away from home for any period. However, a school that can help with his anxiety could just be the best solution to help him find his way back with the mental strength he needs to tackle what the world will send his way.
