Troubled Boys: Crying Out for Help
Teenage boys are known for acting out and often doing abnormal things. However, certain behaviors can be a result of underlying problems and the behaviors your son is exhibiting is only a symptom of the real problem. While many parents focus on fixing the out-of-control behaviors, the only way to ensure that the problem has been taken care of is through therapy to understand the root problem. Troubled boys often act out in numerous different ways; these behaviors are a cry for help. When teenage boys are suffering from problems, they usually know that they need help. However, at this stage of life teen boys do not know how to ask for help so they act out and become defiant. By watching out for abnormal behaviors and communicating with your son, you will be able to know when it is time to get him the help he needs. Among the issues that teens in Iowa deal with are:- Alcohol use: 28% of Iowa teens abuse alcohol and 13% report binge drinking.
- Drug use: 26% of Iowa teens admit to using marijuana at least once and 4% say they have abused illicit drugs such as cocaine and prescription pain killers.
- Juvenile arrests: In 2017, there were 109 arrests for aggravated assault, 33 arrests for robbery, 924 arrests for larceny, 320 arrests for drug abuse and 46 arrests for weapons violations.
- Suicide: Iowa ranks 29th in the nation for suicide, with 20% reporting that they seriously considered attempting suicide within th year prior to the survey.
- Graduation rate: Iowa has only a 91% high school graduation rate
